Chesapeake Area Metalworking Society
Review of 22 May 2001
Meeting
Mason District Governmental Center
6507 Columbia Pike
Falls Church, VA
We managed 19 folks at the May meeting and had a lot of material to discuss despite not having a formal program.
Luther Dietrich gave us an update about progress with the Tuckahoe machine shop restoration project. He reminded us that the show was fast approaching and help was needed.
The major presentation was by Bill and Paul Therry who had brought in electronic Variable Frequency Drives to demonstrate, discuss, and offer for sale. There was quite a lot of interest and many questions were posed. The answers seemed to please many members as quite a few of us elected to take one home. :^)
Don Nichols had brought in a keyway broach set and explained their purpose and usage.
Don also told us about an unusual threading job required to repair the support arm of a high intensity lamp.
Steve Stallings had brought in examples of various finishing tools for de-burring, countersinking, reaming, chamfering, and burnishing.
Chris Helgesen updated us on his magnetic chuck repair project. He had photos of the various stages. The chuck was a nice compound sine unit well worth the effort to repair. Chris found a motor repair shop that was interested in his project and provided materials and services to repair the chuck despite never having seen one before.
An obviously pleased Chris shows us the end result of the repairs.
Dave Bluett showed a projector lens that he was seeking information about and/or a buyer who was interested.
Chris Daniel brought in the impeller from a turbo charger unit used on the diesel engine that runs the electric generator on a large boat that he is helping to refurbish.
The meeting broke up around 11:00 PM and the usual contingent descended on IHOP.
