NOTE: Attachments other than photos will be moderated and restricted to reasonable size. Only, PDF, ZIP, and TXT files are accepted. Executables, scripts, Word documents (risk of embedded macros), and Excel documents are not allowed.
The Chesapeake Area Metalworking Society is a club that was spawned from the rec.crafts.metalworking newsgroup on the Internet. When we first started out we only had a basic e-mail list server. Times move on and we now utilize the services of www.Groups.io which offers both an email list server and a web forum and they share the same content. You can participate using either or both.
The list server and forum serve as the primary method of notifying members about meetings and events.
Anyone may join our list server/forum provided that they furnish their real name and do not use the list to transmit spam, vulgarities, or excessive off-topic material.
By subscribing to the CAMS list server/forum, you agree not to post any material that infringes on copyrights of others, discloses private information, or which is illegal under the laws of the United States of America or the State of Virginia.
By subscribing to the CAMS list server, you agree to permit the list server to include your "Display Name and email address in messages sent via email to our subscribers. This information is available to any person who subscribes and receives email messages from the list server, but not to users using just the forum on the web. You may choose to provide a nick-name or handle in place of your real name, but real names are preferred so that members can relate the person on the list with the people that the encounter at meetings, yard sales, and other CAMS events. If you choose not to provide your real name, please provide more than just a first name. There are too many David's, John's, Steve's etc. and distinguishing between them matters in the context of the message being communicated.
By posting a message on the CAMS list server you grant the owner of the CAMS-CLUB.org domain the non-exclusive right to publish the content the message on the list, and to aggregate the content into any future derivative work. This will include browsable archives that can be accessed by both members and the public. Any derivative works or or archives will have email address obscured from viewing by both members and the public.
Information on using the list server is given below.
You may join (subscribe to) this list by visiting our presence on Groups.IO here:
Only subscribers are allowed to post messages to the list server/forum.
When responding to a message, please trim away excess quoted information that does not need to be repeated and change the subject line if you are now discussing a new topic. This is especially important when using digest mode since the incoming subject line will be the digest number and the quoted information may be the entire digest.
It is also advisable when replying to a message to check the "TO" address to see that it is actually going to the list server. A few people post using software which causes the reply to go to them as an individual, rather than to the list server.

You can Unsubscribe, set Digest Mode, set Special Notices only, set Email Alias addresses to be used as Post Only addresses, set your Display Name, put a mug shot in your profile, and much more. We do not allow setting No Email which would also block Special Notices.
Filters, bounced mail, auto-responders - If you use spam filters you may need to set your filter software to always accept e-mail from the list server. Rejected e-mail is counted by the list server/forum and if you get too many bounces your subscription will be turned off.
